My Beadwork Journey: A Life Threaded with Purpose

My journey into beadwork began in 2008 at the African Art Centre, where I was fortunate to attend training under the guidance of Miss Hlengiwe Dube. It was there that I first learned how to craft beautiful beaded rings—a skill that has remained at the core of my creative practice ever since.

What started as a training session turned into a lifelong passion and sustainable business. My first market was the Essenwood Market, followed by Shongweni Farmers Market, and later expanded to the Karkloof Farmers Market. Over time, I’ve showcased and sold my work at Irene Crafters Market and many others across South Africa. These platforms became more than just selling spaces—they became my family’s bread and butter.

I am the proud head of a family of seven, including my beloved 8-year-old triplets—our blessings from God. Beadwork has not only sustained us financially but also brought purpose, pride, and perseverance into our home.

My roots in the craft industry run deep. I began assisting my late mother, Nesta MaDube Zondi, when I was just 9 years old. Later, I had the privilege of being raised by my late grandmother, Mzenzisi Dube, whose wisdom and strength shaped me profoundly.

But perhaps one of my greatest blessings is being the younger brother of Miss Hlengiwe Dube. Her unwavering mentorship, coaching, and support have shaped my craft into a thriving business. She has stood by me every step of the way, encouraging me to take this journey seriously—not just as an art form but as a meaningful business that uplifts my family and community.
